Preventive Care Services
REGULAR DENTAL CHECKUP

A comprehensive dental exam will be performed at your initial dental visit. At regular check-up exams, we will include the following:
- Examination of diagnostic radiographs (x-rays): Essential for detection of decay, tumors, cysts and bone loss, determine tooth and root positions.
- Oral cancer screening: Check your soft tissues for any signs of oral cancer.
- Periodontal disease evaluation: Check the gums and bone around the teeth for any signs of periodontal disease.
- Examination of existing restorations: Check integrity and function of current fillings, crowns, bridges etc.
- Examination of tooth decay: Check all tooth surfaces for signs of decay.
HYGIENE SERVICES (PROFESSIONAL DENTIAL CLEANING)

Professional dental cleaning are usually performed by Registered Dental Hygienists. At your cleaning appointment we will include a dental exam and the following:
- Removal of calculus (tartar): Calculus is hardened plaque that has remained on the tooth for sometime and is now firmly attached. It forms above and below the gum line and can only be removed with special instruments. Process is referred to as scaling and/or root planning.
- Removal of plaque: Plaque is a sticky film that forms on the teeth. It is a growing colony of bacteria and food debris. The bacteria produce toxins that inflame and damage the gums, signalling the start of periodontal disease.
- Teeth polishing: Remove stain and plaque not removed during brushing.
- Topical Fluoride: Use to strengthen teeth and make them more resistant to decay.
FISSURE SEALANTS

A fissure sealant is a plastic resin placed in the ‘hard to clean’ deep grooves (fissures) of a tooth. It’s purpose is to prevent decay.

NIGHTGUARDS

A nightguard is an appliance that is worn to protect your teeth from clenching and grinding (bruxism). The destructive effects of bruxism can cause premature tooth wear, tooth loss and jaw/ muscle pain.
